Building Inspector / Plans Examiner I-VI

Ocala, FL | Direct Hire

Pay Range: $46,467-$65,187 annually

Base Pay: $22.34/hour, with increased pay based on experience and licenses

Candidates must have working knowledge of the Florida Building Code and relevant building construction or inspection experience.

To qualify for certification through the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) as a Building Inspector/Plans Examiner, candidates must have direct, verifiable experience in building construction, structural inspections, structural plans review or other qualifying vertical construction experience .

Experience should demonstrate hands-on knowledge of building construction and code compliance, including areas such as foundations, structural framing, roofing and other structural components of residential or commercial buildings.

The Building Inspector/Plans Examiner performs inspections and/or reviews plans and specifications submitted for permitting to ensure compliance with the Florida Building Code, applicable county ordinances and other governing laws and regulations .

• Inspect residential and commercial construction to ensure work meets Florida Building Code requirements and applicable county ordinances.
• Perform inspections and/or plan review involving footings, foundations, slabs, lintels, tie beams, wall framing, roof framing, sheathing, roofing, stairs, guardrails and handrails .
• Review construction for structural safety, fire safety, accessibility and proper site grading and drainage.
• Review building plans and specifications for code compliance.
• Document inspection and plan-review findings and update results in the permit database.
• Clearly communicate code requirements, inspection findings and county policies to contractors, property owners and members of the public.
• Maintain accurate documentation associated with assigned inspections and plan examinations.
• Organize daily inspection routes to efficiently manage assigned inspections.
• Maintain current knowledge of the Florida Building Code and developments within the building inspection field.
• Provide professional customer service to contractors, residents, county employees and other stakeholders.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of the Florida Building Code.
• Direct, verifiable experience in building construction, structural inspections and/or structural plans review sufficient to meet applicable DBPR certification requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications and building-code requirements.
• Valid Florida driver's license with no more than four points.
